In *FunkyPilot Academy* Issue 1, the overworked Captain Jack and his ambitious co-pilot Lando are in for a wild ride when a flock of geese decides to get up close and personal with their plane, causing an engine fire and, oh, one engine to completely fall off. No biggie, right? While Jack takes his usual “relaxed” approach to piloting (including the occasional mid-flight nap), Lando’s left wondering if he’s the only one taking the emergency seriously. As they attempt a dramatic engine-less landing, Jack’s calm demeanor somehow saves the day—only for things to get crazier on the ground when talking airplanes and a runaway jet leave Jack questioning his sanity. It’s a sky-high disaster full of laughs, mishaps, and one very confused goose.

The inaugural issue acquaints readers with the central characters: Captain Jack Williams, his first officer, Lando Harris, Captain Jack’s wife, Susan, and three local youngsters—Charlie, Mike, and Echo. Within these pages, the foundation for the series is laid, and we discover the unfortunate circumstances that lead to Captain Jack’s loss of his medical certificate.
