FunkyPilot Academy Issue 7 – Mosquito Madness
FunkyPilot Academy Issue 7 is finally out. (Okay, it has already out for over a month, but I haven’t advertised it yet.)
Yes… it took a while. Longer than we planned. Longer than we hoped. But it’s here.
Issue 7, Mosquito Madness, picks up right where Issue 6 left off as Captain Jack, Susan, Lando, the kids, and Sherman head to the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum. What starts as a fun and educational museum visit quickly takes a strange turn when the airplanes begin whispering for help — and somehow, even Sherman can hear them.
At first, it sounds ridiculous. Haunted airplanes? Talking exhibits? But when the whispers won’t stop, Jack and Sherman become convinced something isn’t right. After the museum closes for the night, the two sneak back inside to investigate, only to stumble into a series of odd clues, a dancing night guard, and a hidden passage that leads to a discovery they definitely weren’t expecting.
If you’ve been following FunkyPilot Academy for a while, this issue will feel familiar in the best way. It’s still very much FunkyPilot Academy: humor, mystery, aviation, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting. The kids continue to grow as characters, asking better questions and starting to think more like pilots in training, while Captain Jack tries (with mixed success) to stay one step ahead.
One new and very meaningful addition in Issue 7 is that we’ve started adding our Kickstarter backers into the comics as characters. This issue features one of our very first backers, Esa Heiskanen (Instagram: @esa.heiskanen). Bringing real supporters into the FunkyPilot Academy world has been incredibly fun — and it’s something we plan to keep doing in future issues.
It’s no secret that getting Issue 7 out took longer than expected. Life, flying schedules, and creative work all tend to pile up at the same time. But the important thing is this: we’re moving forward, and more FunkyPilot Academy issues are planned for later this year.
As always, Mosquito Madness wraps up with a real-world aviation lesson — nothing heavy or textbook-like, just a practical takeaway tied directly to the story. The goal has always been to make aviation learning feel natural, entertaining, and memorable.
If you’ve been waiting patiently for Issue 7, thank you. Your support genuinely keeps FunkyPilot Academy flying.
And yes — more is coming soon. ✈️
Introducing Brush Baron Esa
Meet Brush Baron Esa, a brand-new character in the FunkyPilot Academy universe, inspired by one of our earliest Kickstarter backers, artist Esa Heiskanen. Check out his paintings at: https://www.instagram.com/esa.heiskanen
Rather than giving everything away up front, Brush Baron Esa is best discovered in Issue 7, where his role and personality begin to take shape. Keep an eye out — first impressions can be deceiving.
His role in Issue 7 is minor, but this won’t be the last time you see him. Brush Baron Esa will also appear in upcoming FunkyPilot Shorts, popping up across different publications with his own unique style and perspective on aviation and life around airplanes.
Big thanks to Esa for the early support and for becoming part of the FunkyPilot Academy world. ✈️🎨
